LLMs.txt Generator — frequently asked questions
- What is llms.txt?
- An emerging convention — a markdown file at the root of your site that tells AI engines what your site contains and which pages matter, in a form that is cheap for a model to read. Think of it as a curated summary for language models, where robots.txt is an access-control file for crawlers.
- Where do I put the file?
- At the root of your domain, served as /llms.txt — the same location pattern as robots.txt.
- Is llms.txt an official standard?
- Not yet. It is a community proposal that a growing number of sites publish, and support varies by engine. It is cheap to add and carries no downside, but it is not a guaranteed ranking or citation mechanism.
